Temporary FAQ

FAQs – Temporary Services

How do I sign up for temporary employment through The Ford Agency?

The first step is to send your resume via fax or email to our Temporary Services division.  To help us match the right job with your needs, we strongly encourage you to include a cover letter introducing yourself and explaining the type of work you’re looking for.  Please also include an explanation for any long breaks in employment, as well as your salary history.  If you plan to email your resume, please attach it as an MS Word document and send it to tempjobs@ford-agency.com.  If you plan to send your resume by fax, send it to (202) 466-6167.

How soon will I hear back?

Our recruiters carefully review each resume in the order received.  The initial review process may take several days.  We appreciate your patience while we evaluate your resume and cover letter for potential job matches.  If we have a current match that fits your qualifications and goals, we will contact you as soon as possible.  If there are no open positions, we will continue to hold your resume until new opportunities arise.

When I am called for an interview, what can I expect?

Once you have a scheduled appointment with The Ford Agency, allow at least one hour for the meeting.  During this time, you will fill out an application form, meet with a recruiter to discuss your job search, fill out tax forms and take software and typing tests.  The software test will evaluate your proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  You will also be required to take grammar and spelling tests.  Depending on your particular job search, you may meet with more than one recruiter.

What should I bring to the interview?

Please bring a copy of your resume and a list of three (3) professional references.  Also, please bring the necessary documents to fill out a Federal I-9 form.  These documents include a driver’s license AND social security card, a U.S. passport, as well as an Employment Authorization Card OR an Alien Registration Card if you are not a current U.S. citizen.

What types of positions does The Ford Agency place?

The Ford Agency typically staffs individuals in support-oriented positions.  Job titles in this category include: Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant, Legal Secretary, Paralegal, Office Assistant, Staff Assistant, Research Assistant, Receptionist, Data Entry Clerk and Mail Room Clerk among many others.

How do I know if I’m qualified?

Qualifications vary for different jobs.  Most administrative support jobs will require proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and some previous office experience.

If you are a recent college graduate, your summer internships or work-study jobs are excellent experiences that qualify you for many entry-level administrative positions.

What geographic areas does The Ford Agency serve?

Most jobs listed with The Ford Agency are located in the D.C. metro area.  This area includes:

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Northern Virginia: Rosslyn, Courthouse, Ballston and Tysons Corner
  • Maryland: Montgomery County

What if I’m looking to relocate to the Washington D.C. area, but am not currently a local resident?

If you are a non-local work candidate, we encourage you to submit your resume and contact us once you’re in the area.  Temporary jobs fill very quickly, and candidates are often required to fill positions next-day.  If you are planning to relocate in the long-term, a permanent position may be a better fit for you.  Submit your resume via email or fax, and one of our recruiters will call you back as soon as possible.

How quickly will I find a job?

Unfortunately, the job market is unpredictable. We do our best to make quick placements, but that often depends on the current jobs available.   However, you can dramatically improve your chances by having all the necessary documents ready, especially job references.

Does The Ford Agency place candidates with companies outside the Washington, D.C. area?

Our dedication to the D.C. metro job market and the relationships we have built with local businesses are the foundation to our success.  Therefore, we do not place positions outside of the metro region.

Do I have to pay a fee or sign a contract?

No!  Candidates never pay a fee to The Ford Agency and will not be asked to sign a contract.
